DEVELOPING THE ICON DESK
The I-Condesk ,a timeless design handcrafted from high quality materials. The strong shape and sober lines fit perfectly well in this time and age. The quality of the materials and the craftsmanship are a guarantee that the desk will endure the signs of the times without showing it. Quality as it should be. Oiled solid wood together with thermoformed Corian are the body that is supported by 4 brushed stainless steel legs.
The solid wood drawers are fitted with self- and soft closing drawer guides. The Corian is polished all round and can be repaired invisibly should any damage occur in the future. The oiled solid wood may be maintained with oil if need be, so that the material will remain as new. A small container with oil is supplied with the desk. And each desk is fitted with an engraved and unique number and year of production combined with a signature of the designer on the bottom of the desk.
THE PROCESS
The IconDesk is shaped by pressing heated Corian into the desired form using a mold. The Corian is heated to 160 degrees Celsius, making it as flexible as a slice of Gouda cheese. A combination of inner and outer molds ensures that the IconDesk achieves its final shape within the shortest possible time.
Since the entire form cannot be molded in one piece, the material is bonded together. Thanks to Corian’s ability to be seamlessly joined, the IconDesk can be assembled without visible seams. The applied radii adhere to Corian’s maximum allowable bending limits.
After the shaping process, the solid surface is reinforced with a sturdy frame. Additionally, the solid wood inlays on the front and back are custom-fitted, the drawers are precisely adjusted and installed, the mounting points for the legs are milled out, and the entire piece is carefully finished and polished.
